Q. Where are you located?
A. 2202 E Hudson Avenue, Royal Oak, MI 48067
Q. What days are you open?
A. Monday - Thursday 4pm-8pm
Q. What instruments do you teach?
A. Piano
Q. Do you take beginning students?
A. Yes!
Q. What is the time commitment?
A. Lessons are 1/2 hour per week. Home practice aids musical growth & is highly encouraged.
Q. Do I need to own an instrument?
A. Yes. A short keyboard will suffice. Students do not bring an instrument to the lesson.
Q. What should I bring to my first lesson?
A. You!
Q. What should I expect at my first lesson?
A. Meet your teacher. Student shares musical history & future goals. Piano instruction commences, then ends with planning a practice program.
Q. What equipment should I bring to continuing lessons?
A. Music books
Q. Should a face mask be worn?
A. Yes. Kelly Music stands in solidarity with local children by following the face mask policy of the Royal Oak Public Schools. Currently at the public schools, all individuals are to wear a face mask when at school. Your vaccination status is your medical privacy, so there's no need to share. However, the instructor is triple vaccinated, wears face masks, and cleans the piano between students.
Q. How old are your students?
A. Students are all ages. Our students have a common desire to learn and commit to both home practice and weekly lessons.
Q. What is the enrollment process?
A. Enrollment is online, on this website. To register, click on the "Sign-up" page.
Q. What is the tuition?
A. Tuition is based on enrollment, not attendance. There are approximately 40 lessons in a school year, and the tuition is spread out monthly. A flat monthly rate of $115 is paid on the 1st of the month, regardless of there being 3, 4, or 5 lessons in that particular month.
Q. Is attendance required?
A. Regular and prompt attendance is required to make appropriate progress. A lesson time is reserved for the student each week whether or not the student attends. Often, lessons are scheduled back to back so it is important to be on time for each lesson. If you arrive late, you will have the remainder of your time slot for the lesson but no extra time.
Q. What about missed lessons?
A. Attendance plays a huge role in musical success. Illness and other events can occur during your lesson time causing you to have a missed lesson. If you have a gym membership, are enrolled in dance or sports and had to miss a day/rehearsal/practice, you would not be reimbursed and music lessons are treated the same way. However, if the music teacher is unable to provide studio time as scheduled, a make-up lesson will be scheduled.
Q. Are parents required to sit in the piano instructor's home during lessons?
A. Generally, caregivers of students age 16 and younger are invited to sit in on our first lesson together. Moving forward, caregivers are kindly asked to wait outside during lesson time. This promotes a comfortable space for the student to work freely without distraction. If you are a caregiver and have concerns about this policy, please let me know and I will make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
Q. Are recitals, competitions and exams optional?
A. Yes, they are optional.
